Flight to Lima
Our journey to Peru commences with the essential procedures of passport and baggage check-in, setting the stage for a seamless travel experience. As we embark on our flight to Lima, known to many as a microcosm of the world itself, anticipation builds for the diverse cultural tapestry that awaits us.
While en route, take this opportunity to unwind and relax, immersing yourself in the excitement of the adventure that lies ahead.
Lima
Following a delightful breakfast, our exploration of the Peruvian capital begins. Our first destination is the heart of Lima, where we will encounter the iconic Plaza de Armas, the Archbishop’s Palace distinguished by its characteristic wooden balconies, the Presidential Palace, City Hall, and the venerable church and monastery of the Franciscans.
Our journey continues to the Trans-Andean Railway station, a testament to engineering prowess spearheaded by the visionary Pole, Ernest Malinowski—a feat once deemed impossible.
Subsequently, we venture into the contemporary charm of Miraflores, a modern district, for a leisurely stroll along the picturesque Pacific Ocean coast. The day concludes with accommodation arrangements for a restful overnight stay in Lima, setting the stage for the adventures that lie ahead.
Cusco
In the morning, a flight will transport us to Cusco, nestled in the Peruvian Andes and once the esteemed capital of the Inca Empire. This historic city beckons nearly 2 million global visitors annually, drawn by the enduring traces of a remarkable civilization.
Upon arrival, our exploration of the tourist capital of Peru commences with a leisurely stroll through the cobblestone streets. Highlights of the day include visits to the renowned Cathedral, the Jesuit church, Plaza De Armas, the awe-inspiring Temple of the Sun, and the culturally vibrant district of San Blas. To further immerse ourselves in the local culture, we will also explore a bustling local market.
Cusco, Pisac, Sacsayhuaman
Our day commences with a visit to a locale showcasing diverse camelid species, providing an opportunity for admiration and interaction. Following this, we journey to the charming town of Pisac, with a scenic stop at the Taray viewpoint, boasting panoramic vistas of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here, we explore Inca ruins, delving into the rich historical tapestry.
After a brief respite, we proceed to the imposing Sacsayhuaman, the largest Inca ruins in proximity to Cusco. A short hike back to the city offers a chance to absorb the surrounding beauty. A well-deserved lunch awaits at a local restaurant, followed by an afternoon stroll through the enchanting streets of Cusco. The day concludes with an overnight stay in this culturally rich city.
Chinchero, Maras, Aguas Calientes
Commencing with an early breakfast, our day unfolds as we venture into the captivating Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop is the picturesque town of Chinchero, home to a 17th-century colonial church and intriguing Inca ruins. Delving into the secrets of Andean textile production, we gain insights into a rich cultural heritage.
Continuing our exploration, we visit the town of Maras and the enigmatic archaeological site of Moray, followed by a riverside restaurant experience by the Urubamba River. Our journey then leads us to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we unravel the mysteries of Inca ruins.
As the afternoon unfolds, we board a train bound for Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu. A night of rest awaits in Aguas Calientes, setting the stage for the awe-inspiring adventure awaiting us at the iconic Inca citadel.
Machu Picchu
With an early wake-up, our day commences with the exploration of the awe-inspiring Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, a testament to ancient engineering and architectural brilliance.
Following this, we undertake the ascent to either Wayna Picchu or Huchuy Picchu, towering 360m above Machu Picchu. Both peaks offer a glimpse into the best-preserved Inca cities, adding an exhilarating dimension to our archaeological journey.
In the afternoon, we descend to Aguas Calientes for a well-deserved lunch break before embarking on our journey back to Cusco. En route, we indulge in a tasting of the local drink, chicha, unveiling the secrets of corn beverage production—a cultural experience to savor.
As the day winds down, we return to Cusco for an evening of relaxation and an overnight stay, reflecting on the extraordinary adventures that unfolded in the heart of the Andes.
Cusco, Rainbow Mountain
Commencing our day at the break of dawn, we set forth to reach the town of Cupisata, strategically timed for a sunrise arrival. From Cupisata, a two-hour trek unfolds, leading us to a breathtaking viewpoint where we are privileged to witness the ethereal first rays of sunlight illuminating the renowned Rainbow Mountain.
Following this awe-inspiring spectacle, our journey retraces its steps back to Cusco. In the afternoon, as we return to the city, free time allows for personal exploration. For those with an appetite for culinary delights, an optional dinner is available, offering yet another opportunity to indulge in the flavors of authentic Peruvian cuisine.
Cusco, Lima
As we bid farewell to the former Inca capital, Cusco, our concluding day unfolds with a farewell stroll through its historic streets. Our first stop is the local mercado, a vibrant market where a final opportunity awaits to discover unique souvenirs from Cusco, encapsulating the essence of our Peruvian journey.
For the last time, we traverse the charming main square, Plaza de Armas, absorbing the atmosphere of this cultural hub. The evening concludes with an overnight stay in Lima, providing a reflective pause before departing from the captivating landscapes and rich heritage of Peru.
Departure from Lima
As our memorable journey through Peru concludes, it is time to bid farewell to the cherished group and embark on individual paths homeward.
