Travel itinerary

1.day

Departure to Edinburgh.

After passport and baggage check, we embark on an incredible journey through Scottish distilleries to Edinburgh. Gentlemen will have the opportunity to see charming towns and taste Scottish whisky. Scotland is already waiting for you.

2.day

Edinburgh

After arriving in the capital of Scotland, we will transfer to the hotel for a short rest. Then, we will embark on a city tour. Our first stop will be the Castle. While exploring Edinburgh, we will visit Princes Street Gardens, beautiful gardens located between the Old and New Towns. We will head to the viewpoint at Calton Hill, where we will admire the panoramic views of the city and its surroundings, as well as the historic Royal Mile.

Accommodation in Edinburgh.

3.day

Campbeltown

After breakfast, we will head towards Campbeltown, a town located on the Kintyre Peninsula on the west coast of Scotland. We will drive along one of the most picturesque routes in the country, partly along the romantic Loch Lomond.

Whisky from the Campbeltown region is highly esteemed by connoisseurs. It is characterized by a complex flavor profile – hints of peat, iodine, and sea salt are noticeable. We will visit a local distillery, where we will learn the secrets of whisky production process and, of course, have the opportunity to taste the noble spirit. After the distillery visit, we will head to the port, where we will board a ferry to the Isle of Islay. There we will spend another night.

4.day

Isle of Islay

The Isle of Islay, belonging to the Inner Hebrides, is one of the 6 traditional Scottish whisky production regions and also one of the most famous. Currently, there are 8 distilleries on the island, where whisky is produced, known for its strongly peaty taste.

There is a common belief that whisky from this region is either loved or hated. Of all the regional varieties, Islay whisky is the easiest to recognize. However, not all whiskies produced on the island are peaty. Some of them also have smoky accents. For example, the non-peaty whisky Bunnahabhain comes from the island. The Isle of Islay is not just about distilleries; you’ll find charming port towns, rich wildlife, and picturesque hiking trails here. Tonight, we will also spend the night on the island.

5.day

Oban

After breakfast, we will return to the mainland to explore more distilleries belonging to the Highland region. We will head to the town of Oban, which provides magnificent views and excellent food.

Whisky from Oban is mild with a well-balanced taste. While in Oban, it’s worth seeing McCaig’s Tower, also known as the “crown of Oban” or the “colosseum.” The tower owes its name to its characteristic round shape, which may resemble the Roman Colosseum or a crown. It is a beautiful viewpoint terrace offering stunning panoramic views of the neighboring islands. It’s also worth visiting Dunollie Castle, which is located less than half an hour’s walk from the city center. Overnight stay in Oban.

6.day

Inverness

After breakfast, we will head towards the beautiful Glencoe Valley. It was formed as a result of a volcano eruption and owes its present shape to glacier activity. We will admire it by stopping at numerous viewpoints along the way.

About half an hour’s drive from Glencoe is the highest peak in the British Isles, part of the European Crown – Ben Nevis, measuring 1345 meters above sea level. This is where the beauty of Scotland shines. At the foot of the mountain is the picturesque Ben Nevis distillery, founded in 1825. Further north, we will travel along Loch Ness and then to the 13th-century Urquhart Castle located on its shore. In the late evening, we will reach Inverness, considered the capital of the entire Highlands region. Overnight stay in Inverness.

7.day

Inverness

After breakfast, we will set out to explore another whisky production region – Speyside. It is located in northeastern Scotland, right on the River Spey, between Elgin and Dufftown. Whiskies from this region are the sweetest of all. They contain a large amount of esters, which allows you to detect aromas of apples, pears, cloves, violets, lemonade, or bananas. Among the spirits from this region, you can find some of the noblest whiskies. Speyside is characterized by the largest number of distilleries, and today we will visit several of them. Overnight stay in Inverness.

8.day

Inverness

Part of today’s day will be spent exploring Inverness. During the city tour, we will see the castle, the cathedral, and the interesting building of the town hall. We will also have free time for souvenir shopping or a peaceful stroll along the banks of the River Ness, which flows into the lake at this point. On the way back to Edinburgh, we will visit more distilleries. Overnight stay in Edinburgh.

9.day

Departure from Edinburgh

Today marks the end of our tasting expedition. We hope that Scotland has made an impression on you. After breakfast, we will have the opportunity to do some last-minute shopping. In addition to a bottle of whisky, it’s worth bringing home some buttery shortbread cookies. The more daring among us may return dressed in a Scottish kilt. We invite you to join us on other adventures with Rek Travel Adventure, this time not just for gentlemen. How about Norway?
