2.day

Buenos Aires, Bariloche

Morning flight to San Carlos de Bariloche (commonly known as Bariloche) – a city bordering Lake Nahuel Huapi and surrounded by the Andes. Bariloche is famous for its Swiss Alpine architecture and the chocolate sold in shops along the main street, Calle Mitre.

3.day

Cruce Andino

After breakfast, sail through the Andes and three beautiful lakes connected by four land branches, from San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina to Puerto Varas in Chile. While traversing Lago Nahuel Huapi, observe the landscapes featuring green hues of forests and birds.

Next, admire Lago Frias with stunning views of Cerro Tronador. Time for a break in Peulla – an ecological haven and a paradise for nature lovers. Here, an additional paid lunch is available.

Finally, time for Lago Todos los Santos. Here, if the weather permits, we will see the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes. Then continue the journey to Puerto Varas. The landscape will impress us with stunning views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. Arrival in Puerto Varas. Overnight stay at the hotel.

4.day

Alerce Andino NP

After breakfast, trek to Alerce Andino National Park, established in 1982 and part of the Temperate Rainforest Biosphere Reserve in the Southern Andes, located 1.5 hours away from the town of Puerto Varas.

The trek will predominantly feature forests composed of larch, Magellanic coigüe, and lenga. Among the mammals, with a bit of luck, you might see the pudu, gray fox, and chingue, and perhaps even the resident puma or mountain monkey.

In the sky, among the treetops, and on the steep walls of the Andean massif, you can spot the condor, black woodpecker, huet huet, kingfisher, peuco, caiquen, cachudito, and torcaza, and in the countless lakes, the native fish “percatrucha.”

The total route is nearly 8 kilometers to Laguna Triangulo and back along the same path (maximum elevation of 551m and about 6-8 hours of travel round trip). One of the main goals will be to discover one of the oldest species on Earth: the larch or Lahuen, reaching over 60 meters in height and 2600 years in age!

5.day

Vincente Perez Rosales NP

After breakfast, explore Perez Rosales National Park. The itinerary includes Petrohue Waterfalls, a cruise on Emerald Lake, a hike along the slopes of Osorno Volcano, and, with good weather, enjoying views of most of the volcanoes in the area. If rain and clouds surprise us, we will focus more on the flora and how the volcano shapes the landscape. The trekking distance is about 7km.

Next, take a local motorboat from Petrohue port to “La Poza.” Hike from the lakeshore along part of the “Los Arceles” trail and trek the “La Desolacion” trail, ending with a climb to the top of a small waterfall.

On the return journey, pass through several lahars, where today melted snow from the volcano flows into the lake, bringing rock flour responsible for the turquoise color of the waters. Most of the trails we will use were created in the first half of the 20th century by settlers seeking snowy slopes for skiing and Alerce trees for building typical wooden houses in Pto. Varas.

This is the most frequently visited area of the park, where one can easily enjoy the flora shaping the moving soil of our volcanoes, while admiring the best views of the Lake District.

6.day

Puerto Varas, Balmaceda, Green Baker Lodge

After breakfast, fly to Balmaceda. Upon arrival, continue our journey to the first destination, Paredon de las Manos – a 35-meter-long wall featuring handprints set in stone and paintings of guanacos dating back 5,000 years.

Next, a lunch break in Rio Tranquilo followed by a cruise to the “Marble Chapels.” Comprising three limestone formations, they are distinguished by the beauty of their columns and the intense blue of the water that surrounds them.

Arrival at our lodge situated on the banks of the Baker River. Welcome dinner.

7.day

Patagonia NP

Today, travel to the confluence of the Rio Baker & Neff rivers. This features a waterfall with over a 10-meter drop in water. Next, visit Patagonia National Park, which was relatively recently established in 2018.

Patagonia Park is the core of the new Patagonia Parks Trail and a major conservation project. Finally, stop at the viewpoint at the confluence of the Baker and Chacabuco rivers. Return to our lodge. Dinner for the participants.

8.day

Ice Trekking, Calluqueo

After breakfast, embark on a trekking adventure on the Calluqueo Glacier. We will head towards the glacier via the Alberto de Agostini route and cross the river to reach the Calluqueo viewpoint. This will be a 7-hour excursion, covering 12km round trip. Return to our lodge. Dinner for the participants.

9.day

Green Baker Lodge, Santiago de Chile

Farewell to Carratere and Patagonia. Departure towards Balmaceda airport and flight to Santiago, the capital of Chile. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay.

10.day

Santiago de Chile

And so our adventure comes to an end. After arriving at the airport for the return flight, it’s time to say goodbye to the group.
