Greece is a country of sun, rich history, magnificent landmarks, and delicious cuisine. Perhaps that’s why it’s called Arcadia, meaning paradise on Earth. It must be admitted that life in Greece unfolds at its own pace. Here, nobody is in a hurry. And no wonder, as charming villages, beautiful landscapes, fascinating architecture, and sun-drenched scenery unfold before our eyes…
Travel itinerary
Flight to Athens
After passport and baggage check-in, we embark on a journey to sunny Greece, where history and philosophy enthusiasts seek traces of Plato and Socrates, as well as references to characters known from mythology.
Athens
After arrival, we will take a stroll through Athens – the cradle of democracy and modern civilization, thanks to the preserved monuments from the ancient world. We will linger at the foot of the Acropolis, where the oldest district of Athens unfolds – Plaka. Walking through narrow, atmospheric streets, we will see many shops, cafes, and taverns. We will have dinner at one of them. Then we will transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Santorini
After breakfast, we will transfer to the airport to find ourselves on the island of Santorini, famous for its best-selling white and blue houses perched on steep cliffs.
We will go to Fira – the capital of the island. Then we will head to Imerovigli. The Santorini Caldera will leave a special impression on us. After sightseeing, we will transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Santorini
Today, we will take a cruise to the volcanic island of Nea Kameni (cost approximately €70). Next, we will sail to another volcanic island, Palea Kameni. Here, there will be an opportunity to take a bath in therapeutic sulfuric waters. In the end, we will visit the island of Thirassia located in the Cyclades archipelago. After a short walk, we will return by cruise. Then, transfer to the airport and flight back to Athens. Accommodation in the hotel and overnight stay.
Athens - Tolo
After breakfast, we will begin the sightseeing of Athens. We will see, among others, the Kalimarmaro Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games took place in 1896. Additionally, we will take a closer look at the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Parliament (we will stop here longer to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier), and the Athens Triptych (Academy of Fine Arts, University of Athens, National Library). The culmination of the day will be a guided tour of the Acropolis. We will admire, among others, the Parthenon (temple dedicated to the goddess Athena), Erechtheion, Temple of Nike, and Propylaea (Gateway).
After descending from the Acropolis, we will stroll through the Greek Agora and Roman Agora to the oldest district of Athens called Plaka. In the evening, we will leave Athens and head to the Peloponnese. Our destination will be Tolo – formerly a small fishing village, now a popular resort. Accommodation and overnight stay.
Hydra - Spetses
After breakfast, transfer to the port and a cruise to the islands of Hydra and Spetses. Hydra is an incredibly magical and romantic island. It was here that the Canadian singer Leonard Cohen created his musical works.
Spetses, on the other hand, is the family island of the Greek national heroine, Laskarina Bouboulina, who played an important role in the liberation of the city of Nafplio. It is famous for its beautiful promenade and horse-drawn carriages. Accommodation and overnight stay in Tolo.
Napflio - Epidaurus
Today, we will go on a trip to Nafplio and Epidaurus. We will visit the archaeological site with the ancient Temple of Asclepius (the mythological god of doctors) and the best-preserved theater from the 4th century BC. Historical buildings are located at Syntagma Square (Constitution). Two particularly noteworthy fortresses from the Venetian and Turkish periods attract attention: Palamidi Fortress and Akronafplia. Trying to match them is the tiny Bourtzi Fortress on the waterfront. In the afternoon, we will return to the hotel in Tolo for a well-deserved rest.
The Archaeological Site in Delphi
After breakfast, we will head towards Delphi, which was once considered the center of the earth and is now one of the most important treasures of Greek culture. This is where the oracle decided the fate of the ancient world. We will see the remains of the Temple of Apollo, the Athenian Treasury from the 5th century BC, the theater, and the stadium where the games took place. Transfer to Kamena Vourla, check-in, and overnight stay.
Meteora
After breakfast, we will drive to Kalambaka to visit a workshop crafting Byzantine icons. We will also have the opportunity to see the famous Meteora, which is the second-largest center of monasticism in Greece and has fascinated people from around the world for centuries. The renowned monasteries are perched on inaccessible rock formations, reaching heights of up to 600 meters above sea level. Return to Kamena Vourla for an overnight stay.
Departure from Athens
Today marks the end of our Greek vacation. After breakfast, we will drive to the airport to bid farewell to the group and embark on the journey back home.
If you enjoyed Greece, we invite you to join our upcoming trips. How about exploring Portugal or Lake Como and Southern Italy this time?
