Departure
KATHMANDU
Arrival in Kathmandu, where we will be greeted by a local guide. Transfer to a hotel in the heart of the city. Some time to rest and check-in. Organizational and informational meeting before starting the trek. In the evening, a welcome dinner and a stroll through the lively streets of Thamel, the most vibrant district of the city and highly recognized among tourists. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
KATHMANDU - SYABRU BESI
After breakfast, we will depart from Kathmandu towards Syabru Besi (1550 meters above sea level). This town is located north of the Nepalese capital, right next to the famous Langtang National Park and close to the Tibetan border.
The journey will take approximately 7 hours. During the drive, we will pass through beautiful landscapes of the towns of Trishuli Bazar and Dhunche. Snow-capped Himalayan peaks will accompany us on the horizon, and the terraced green hills and lush forests that we will pass through will make the journey incredibly scenic. Upon arrival, accommodation and overnight stay.
SYABRU BESI - LAMA HOTEL
After breakfast, we will head towards the first part of the trail, which crosses the Bhote Koshi River and runs along the Langtang Valley. We will cross a suspension bridge, and the trail will lead us through an incredible subtropical forest, full of rhododendrons. You can admire the local wildlife, including langur monkeys, Himalayan black bears, and, if we’re lucky, red pandas. The last stage of our journey is Lama Hotel (2470 meters above sea level), a charming teahouse located in the valley.
Altitude: 2470 meters above sea level
Duration: approximately 7 hours
LAMA HOTEL - LANGTANG VILLAGE - MUNDU
On this day, we will ascend through the deep valley, passing through beautiful forests of oak, maple, and rhododendron. Along the way, we will also see pastures with herds of yaks. These pack animals are very important to the people of the Himalayas and highly revered by them. Continuing further up the trail, we will reach the village of Langtang, which was devastated by a powerful earthquake several years ago but has since been rebuilt and now hosts many tourists. From here, you can admire the towering peak of Langtang Lirung on the horizon, covered in snow and reaching over 7000 meters above sea level.
Altitude: 3430 meters above sea level
Duration: approximately 6 hours
MUNDU - Kyanjin Gompa
Today’s route is shorter but more acclimatizing. We will head towards the village of Kyanjin Gompa (3870 meters above sea level), nestled amidst white snow-capped peaks, with a strong Buddhist tradition. Along the way, we will see Buddhist chortens and prayer flags fluttering in the wind. The trail for this day will lead along the valley through pastures full of yaks, goats, and sheep. We will also visit the famous cheese factory. It will be an incredibly picturesque section of the trail as we ascend along the glacier moraine with views of Kyanjin Gompa and the cascading waterfalls flowing from Langtang Lirung. From the village, we can also catch a glimpse of the summit of Tsergo Ri (5033 meters above sea level), which we will climb the next day. Accommodation will be in a local guesthouse with overnight stay.
Altitude: 3870 meters above sea level
Duration: approximately 4-5 hours
KYANJIN GOMPA - TSERGO RI - KYANJIN GOMPA
On this day, we will start early in the morning. The trail leads us along the glacier moraine, offering stunning views of magnificent ice walls. Our destination is the summit of Tsergo Ri, standing at an impressive altitude of 5033 meters above sea level and also the highest point on our trek. From the summit, we will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Langtang range, including the Langtang Lirung glacier and peaks such as Langtang Lirung (7227 meters above sea level), Changbu (6251 meters above sea level), Langshisa Ri, Gyanghempo, Naya Kanga (5844 meters above sea level), and Ganjala. As the ascent to the summit of Tsergo Ri is challenging, we also have an easier alternative – ascending to the viewpoint of Kyajnjin Ri (4773 meters above sea level), which still offers incredible views of the glaciers and nearby peaks. Afterward, we will return to Kyanjin Gompa for the night.
Altitude: 5033 meters above sea level
Duration: Approximately 9 hours (or a shorter alternative version of about 6 hours)
KYANJIN GOMPA - HOTEL LAMA
After breakfast, we continue our journey back along the familiar trail. We will pass through the village of Mundu until we reach the famous Lama Hotel. Along the way, we can still admire the beautiful landscapes and extraordinary vegetation. Accommodation and dinner will be provided at the Lama Hotel.
Altitude: 2470 meters above sea level
Duration: Approximately 5 hours
HOTEL LAMA - THULO SYABRU
The journey back continues along the trail following the river through remarkable forests. We head towards Syabru Besi, gradually leaving behind the majestic snow-capped mountains. The descent is relatively easy as we pass through several villages until we reach a fork in the trail. While the downhill path leads back to where we started our journey in Syabru Besi, we will instead head uphill to the village of Thulo Syabru. This is an incredibly charming and traditional village, mainly inhabited by the Tamang people. Here, we will learn about their culture and customs. Accommodation and overnight stay will be arranged in Thulo Syabru.
Altitude: 2130 meters above sea level
Duration: Approximately 6 hours
THULO SYABRU - NAGARKOT
After breakfast, we’ll embark on the final leg of our Langtang journey. We’ll head to the town of Syabru Bensi, where transportation will be waiting to take us back towards the capital. However, instead of returning to Kathmandu, we’ll make our way approximately 32 kilometers west to Nagarkot. This is an extraordinary place known for its spectacular viewpoints and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. We’ll enjoy well-deserved relaxation at a hotel in Nagarkot and have a farewell dinner.
Travel time: Approximately 7 hours.
NAGARKOT - BHAKTAPUR - KATHMANDU
With a bit of luck, we may have a stunning view of the Himalayas from our hotel, including the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest (8849 meters above sea level). After breakfast, we’ll begin our journey back to Kathmandu. If time allows, we’ll stop in Bhaktapur at the famous Durbar Square. Bhaktapur Durbar Square, locally known as Khwopa Lyaku, is the royal palace of the old Kingdom of Bhaktapur situated at an altitude of 1400 meters above sea level. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and enchants visitors with its architecture and history. We’ll then proceed to the airport for departure.
- Depending on the international flight schedule, departure will either be on the same day in the evening or with an overnight stay in Kathmandu and departure the next day.
